AFTERCARE
WHAT
TO DO
If using Saniderm (a clear adhesive wrap) keep it on for at least 24 hours and up to 5 days. If there is liquid pooling up under the bandage, remove it and optionally put a second piece of saniderm on (a little bit of ink/ bleeding under the saniderm is normal.) If your tattoo is becoming increasingly uncomfortable or the saniderm is bothering you, remove it by peeling from the top down.
For larger wrap around pieces, saniderm can be uncomfortable to remove, in which case I recommend removing it in a warm shower. After removing the saniderm, WASH and dry with a clean paper towel, then Wash twice a day with warm water and a mild fragrance-free liquid soap (I prefer diluted liquid Dr Bronner's unscented baby soap) and apply a very thin layer of mild unscented moisturizer (such as lubriderm) twice a day until the tattoo is healed.
It is normal for your tattoo to look desaturated and wrinkly after removing the saniderm!
After the tattoo is completely healed, always use a high SPF sunscreen on your tattoo when in the sun
If using a traditional bandage (a pad and tape): keep your bandage on for 2-4 hours. It can be left on overnight, but no longer than 24 hours.
Wash your hands with antibacterial soap before cleaning or touching your tattoo.
After removing your bandage, rinse the tattoo with warm water and dry with a clean paper towel.
Wash twice a day with warm water and a mild fragrance-free liquid soap, then apply a very thin layer of ointment (Aquaphor or A&D Ointment) for the first 2-3 days.
After the first 2-3 days, switch to a mild unscented lotion (such as Lubriderm) After the tattoo is completely healed, always use a high SPF sunscreen on your tattoo when in the sun.
NOT TO DO
Do not use lotions with fragrances or aloe.
Use freshly washed bed sheets and clothing during the healing process, If your tattoo sticks to your clothing or sheets, do not rip it off, use warm water to remove it.
